About Our Client

Our client is a lead‑ing UK‑based energy and engineering consultancy specialising in the design and delivery of low‑carbon energy infrastructure. They work across both the public and private sectors, supporting hospitals, universities, residential developments, commercial buildings and large‑scale urban projects to decarbonise heat and power systems. Their work plays a key role in supporting the UK s Net Zero ambitions through innovative, sustainable energy solutions. They are growing 20% YoY and have a team of 125 MEP Engineers across the UK.

The Role

Our client is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing engineering design team. This role is ideal for an engineer looking to further develop their technical capability while working on complex, low‑carbon energy projects.

You will support the delivery of mechanical designs from concept through to detailed design across district and communal heating systems, energy centres, trigeneration solutions and heat pump technologies. Projects vary in scale and stage, offering exposure to surveys, site visits, calculations and client‑facing work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting the design of distributed energy schemes, energy centres and district heating networks
  • Interpreting and documenting client and project requirements
  • Carrying out engineering calculations and assisting with equipment selection
  • Producing schematics and detailed drawings using AutoCAD
  • Maintaining awareness of cost implications within designs
  • Assisting with design issue resolution and risk mitigation
  • Ensuring compliance with CDM requirements and internal processes
  • Supporting HAZOP studies, risk assessments and tender documentation
What You’ll Need
  • HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or a related discipline (degree preferred)
  • Design experience within one or more of the following areas:
    Building Services, CHP, boilers/heating, HVAC, steam, air handling, cooling or renewable energy (e.g. heat pumps or solar)
  • Competent in AutoCAD
  • Full UK manual driving licence
