Qualifications

The Client

Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Consultancy drawing on 50 years’ experience providing Building Services Engineering support to the property industry. They have a dynamic and enthusiastic team of MEP and sustainability experts providing Design and Project Management (Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health), Maintenance Management, Dilapidation Surveys, Technical Services Management, Sustainability/Energy Services, Expert Witness & Feasibility Studies to the built environment.

Role

As the Mechanical Associate, you will lead and oversee the Mechanical Engineering aspects of various building services projects. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, you will be responsible for developing creative solutions that meet our client’s needs while adhering to industry standards and sustainability principles. Your technical expertise and leadership will be instrumental in guiding our projects from concept to completion.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee the mechanical design team within the London office.
  • Take the lead in mechanical engineering design and development of building services projects, making sure all applicable regulations, guidance, and best practices are adhered to.
  • Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and other stakeholders to develop integrated, holistic solutions aligning with the project’s vision and objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing and continuous learning within the team.
  • Conduct thorough assessments, evaluations, and feasibility studies to identify project requirements, technical challenges, and potential risks.
  • Ensure accuracy and adherence to project standards by creating and reviewing comprehensive design calculations, specifications, and drawings.
  • Oversee the selection of appropriate HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems and equipment, considering efficiency, sustainability, and life-cycle costs.
  • Manage the preparation and submission of engineering reports, proposals, and presentations for clients and regulatory authorities.
  • Maintain close communication with clients, consultants, and contractors to ensure effective project coordination and timely resolution of issues.
  • Perform on-site inspection surveys to verify the quality of completed work.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in mechanical engineering practices, integrating new knowledge into project designs.
  • Promote sustainability initiatives, energy efficiency, and green building practices throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor project budgets and timelines, ensuring that projects are delivered within scope and on schedule.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree holder in Mechanical Engineering, preferably with a focus on Building Services Engineering.
  • Preferably registered as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with membership of a relevant institution, i.e. CIBSE
  • 7+ years’ experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer with some experiencing managing and mentoring.
  • Good knowledge of MEPWorx, AutoCAD, IES, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ideally knowledge of Bluebeam Revu, and Revit.
  • A track record of managing and completing medium to large-scale projects successfully.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and regulations in the building services industry.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a meticulous approach to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and adapt to changing project requirements.
  • Strong leadership abilities, with the capacity to motivate and inspire team members.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive project information.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex technical information to diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven dedication and commitment to sustainability and green building practices.
