Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working as an LGV/Heavy Vehicle Mechanic.
  • Proven competence in vehicle diagnostics, repair, and maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to varying workloads.
  • Full UK driving licence; HGV licence desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned servicing and preventive maintenance on company vehicles.
  • Use diagnostic tools to identify faults quickly and accurately.
  • Strip, fit, repair, and replace defective vehicle components.
  • Prepare vehicles for MOT testing, ensuring compliance.
  • Complete job cards and service sheets accurately.
  • Work closely with the stores team for efficient stock control.
  • Identify additional repairs or specialist work required.
  • Communicate with operations managers to schedule vehicle servicing.
  • Support the wider team by diagnosing faults and servicing the LGV fleet.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Routine Servicing & Maintenance:
    Carry out planned servicing and preventive maintenance on company vehicles to ensure safe and reliable operation.

  • Fault Diagnosis:
    Use diagnostic tools and mechanical expertise to identify faults quickly and accurately.

  • Repairs & Component Replacement:
    Strip, fit, repair, and replace defective vehicle components, ensuring all work meets manufacturer and safety standards.

  • MOT Preparation:
    Prepare vehicles for MOT testing, completing all necessary checks and adjustments to achieve compliance.

  • Documentation & Reporting:
    Complete job cards, service sheets, and all relevant paperwork accurately, ensuring they are returned on a weekly basis.

  • Parts & Stock Management:
    Work closely with the stores team to facilitate efficient stock control and timely ordering of parts.

  • Work Assessment:
    Identify any additional repairs or specialist work required and advise if the work should be undertaken by external contractors.

  • Operational Liaison:
    Communicate with operations managers to schedule vehicle servicing and minimise operational downtime.

  • Fleet Maintenance:
    Support the wider team by diagnosing faults, servicing, and maintaining the entire LGV fleet as required.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working as an LGV/Heavy Vehicle Mechanic.

  • Proven competence in vehicle diagnostics, repair, and maintenance.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to varying workloads.

  • Full UK driving licence (HGV licence desirable but not essential).
