THE EMPLOYER IS: RAILWAY PRESERVATION SOCIETY OF IRELANDThe Marketing and Events Assistant will play a key role in supporting the delivery of marketing initiatives and public events at Whitehead Railway Museum, part of the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals looking to develop practical skills in marketing, events management and visitor engagement within a heritage and tourism context.The role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a professional, visitor-focused environment while contributing to the promotion and delivery of engaging programmes that attract and inspire local communities, tourists, and railway enthusiasts. The successful candidate will work closely with staff and volunteers to help plan, promote and execute public events, activity days and special projects, while also assisting in creating content for social media, websites and printed promotional materials.This position is designed not only to provide practical occupational skills training in marketing and events but also to support the development of broader employability skills, including teamwork, communication, organisation, problem-solving, and time management. The role does involve some weekend working to support scheduled events, providing the opportunity to gain experience in live event delivery and customer-facing engagement.In addition to day-to-day responsibilities, the Marketing and Events Assistant will receive structured guidance, mentoring, and professional development, including CV and interview support, masterclasses with marketing professionals and access to workshops and networking opportunities. This role is ideal for someone motivated to learn, eager to contribute creatively to a vibrant heritage attraction, and looking to build a strong foundation for a future career in marketing, events or tourism.This role is based at Whitehead Railway Musuem but may involve occasional travel to our premises in Dublin.

Responsibilities
  • Marketing and Communications - Assist in creating engaging content for social media, website updates and promotional materials.
  • Marketing and Communications - Support marketing campaigns to promote events, programmes and the museum to diverse audiences.
  • Marketing and Communications - Monitor and report on marketing activity and audience engagement metrics.
  • Events Support - Help plan, promote and deliver public events and activity days.
  • Events Support - Work closely with staff and volunteers to ensure smooth event operations.
  • Events Support - Assist with on-the-day visitor engagement and support activities.
  • Audience and Visitor Engagement - Gather stories and information from staff, volunteers, and visitors for marketing purposes.
  • Audience and Visitor Engagement - Interact positively with museum visitors to enhance their experience.
  • Audience and Visitor Engagement - Respond to visitor enquiries and provide accurate information about events and activities.
  • Visitor Engagement and Customer Service - Greet visitors on arrival, provide information about museum exhibits, events, and activities, and ensure a high standard of visitor experience.
  • Visitor Engagement and Customer Service - Assist with visitor feedback collection and contribute ideas for improving visitor engagement.
  • Visitor Engagement and Customer Service - Assist with routine maintenance, tidying, and monitoring of display areas to ensure they are visitor-ready.
