Job description
About Sight Research UK

Sight Research UK is a national charity championing and accelerating innovative eye disease research across the UK. Through targeted investment in the most promising science, they aim to deliver meaningful impact for those affected by sight loss.

Despite the devastating effects of blindness, eye research remains underfunded and overlooked. They’re here to change that and need passionate people to help them do it.

A small but mighty team: collaborative, supportive, and driven by the mission. No two days are the same, and your work will have real visibility and impact.

The role

As Marketing & Communications Officer, you’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering Sight Research UK’s external communications. Working closely with the Marketing & Communications Manager, you’ll oversee content across digital and print channels, manage campaigns from idea to evaluation, and ensure everything they put out is engaging, accessible, and on-brand.

An ideal role for someone who enjoys working independently but loves being part of a close-knit team and who wants to develop a broad range of marketing and communications skills within the charity sector.

What you’ll be doing
  • Creating engaging, accessible content across social media, website, email, print, and other channels
  • Planning, delivering, and evaluating multi-channel marketing and communications campaigns
  • Managing and growing social media presence, including content planning, community engagement, and performance analysis
  • Producing high-quality written, visual, and multimedia content for a range of audiences
  • Maintaining and optimising the charity’s website
  • Writing compelling copy for emails, websites, press releases, appeal letters, leaflets, posters, and articles
  • Monitoring digital and campaign performance and using insights to inform improvements
  • Supporting PR activity, responding to media enquiries, and building relationships with external stakeholders
  • Acting as a brand ambassador, offering guidance on tone, messaging, and best practice
  • Occasionally representing the charity at events and visits
About you

You’ll be a natural communicator with a creative eye and a sharp attention to detail. Confident at managing your own workload, comfortable working across multiple channels, and motivated by the opportunity to support a meaningful cause.

  • At least 1 year of experience in a marketing, communications, or content role
  • Strong copywriting skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Experience managing social media channels (e.g. Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn)
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and work independently – it’s crucial you have the ability, skills and confidence to work proactively & use your own common sense and judgement to make an effective impact
  • Confident in analysing marketing performance and using data to inform decisions

Desirable: experience with Canva or Adobe, CMS platforms (e.g. WordPress), email marketing tools, analytics, PR, SEO, or working in the charity sector would all help your application!

Why join?
  • The chance to make a genuine impact in the charity sector
  • A varied, creative role with real autonomy
  • Supportive and collaborative team culture
  • Opportunities to grow and develop your marketing skillset
  • Inclusive employer committed to equality and diversity
  • Bradley Stoke, office-based one day per week, rest can be remote
  • £30k + 30 days annual leave (plus Bank Holidays!)
