Manufacturing Operations Manager

We are recruiting a Manufacturing Operations Manager to join a well-established and growing manufacturer of architectural steelwork and balcony systems. This Manufacturing Operations Manager role offers the opportunity to take ownership of manufacturing performance across two Northern sites, supporting a business with a strong project pipeline, long-term growth plans and ongoing investment in manufacturing capability.

Reporting into the General Manager, the Manufacturing Operations Manager will provide hands‑on, shop‑floor leadership while working through existing Fabrication and Assembly Managers. The role is focused on driving safe, efficient and repeatable manufacturing processes, embedding strong operational standards and leading continuous improvement across fabrication, welding, assembly and logistics operations.

This opportunity will suit an experienced Manufacturing Operations Manager who enjoys being visible on the shop floor, leading through others, improving processes and developing teams in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide operational leadership as Manufacturing Operations Manager across two manufacturing sites
  • Lead through Fabrication and Assembly Managers, coaching and developing high‑performing teams
  • Maintain a strong shop‑floor presence, leading from the front as Manufacturing Operations Manager
  • Drive safe, efficient and repeatable manufacturing processes
  • Oversee fabrication, welding, assembly and finishing of architectural steelwork and balcony systems
  • Ensure manufacturing output meets specification, quality and programme requirements
  • Embed consistent SOPs, processes and behaviours across both sites
  • Establish strong operational rhythm including daily briefings, tier meetings and shift reviews
  • Champion continuous improvement and operational ownership across manufacturing teams
  • Lead CI initiatives to improve workflow, layout, efficiency and throughput
  • Reduce rework, defects and waste through practical, data‑led problem solving
  • Introduce Lean tools such as visual management, standard work and root cause analysis
  • Promote high standards of weld quality, fit‑up and dimensional accuracy
  • Coordinate yard operations, storage and material flow
  • Align manufacturing output with project and installation programmes
  • Act as the key link between manufacturing, logistics, projects and installation teams
  • Support installation readiness, sequencing and documentation
  • Lead a proactive health & safety culture across manufacturing operations
  • Ensure compliance with H&S, quality and environmental requirements
  • Develop, support and retain manufacturing leadership and workforce
  • Support recruitment, workforce planning and skills development
  • Own high‑level manufacturing planning and labour forecasting
  • Monitor performance against output, quality, safety and efficiency targets
  • Provide clear operational reporting to senior management
