Qualifications

Main Purpose of the Role

The Management Accountant will be central to ensuring the quality, integrity, and reporting of financial data from across the organisation. The postholder will be responsible for the daily monitoring, reconciliation and accuracy of financial data transfers between various internal systems and the core finance platform.

We are looking for someone who brings drive, initiative, and a positive approach to problem‑solving, with the ability to work collaboratively and confidently in a fast‑paced environment. This role suits an individual who is not only technically strong but also eager to contribute ideas, improve processes, and support the organisation's growth.

A key aspect of the role involves working closely with budget holders, providing them with up‑to‑date financial information, and ensuring that any variances from budget or forecast are identified promptly and addressed with appropriate corrective actions. The successful candidate will also play a significant role in supporting the implementation of a new finance system over the coming months, contributing to its successful rollout and integration.

While not essential, a working knowledge of payroll would be advantageous, as the role includes responsibilities related to payroll data compilation and statutory reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and reconcile daily financial data transfers between systems
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial records
  • Prepare detailed monthly reports comparing actuals versus forecasts
  • Review cost centres post‑month‑end for accurate coding
  • Distribute quarterly budget templates and support timely submissions
  • Provide up‑to‑date financial information to budget holders
  • Investigate discrepancies and implement corrective actions
  • Present financial insights to the CEO and Executive Team
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and Escalate issues as needed
  • Reconcile housing benefit and council tax income/expenditure
  • Manage provider recharges and support rent/arrears tracking
  • Compile payroll data, process payments, and prepare HMRC reports
  • Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with legislation
  • Support rollout and integration of new finance systems
  • Cover team absences, train new starters and budget holders
  • Champion financial awareness and continuous improvement
Relevant essential skills and experience
  • Formal AAT qualification or equivalent experience in finance
  • Comprehensive knowledge and hands‑on experience in accounting processes, with a strong focus on financial analysis and reporting
  • Exceptional numeracy and analytical skills, with a proven ability to interpret complex data
  • Demonstrated experience in payroll management and understanding of payroll legislation
  • Proficient in MS Excel (including PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, IF statements) and experienced with Windows‑based accounting software
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with budget holders, colleagues, suppliers, and customers
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high‑quality work
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion
  • Proactive, solution‑oriented mindset with a strong work ethic and a willingness to take on challenges
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently, managing multiple priorities effectively.
