Maintenance Shift Engineer

Salary: £51,500 (including shift allowance)

Location: Aberdare, South Wales, CF44

Permanent Role – Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off

Day shifts: 06:00 - 18:00 (2 days)

Night shifts: 18:00 - 06:00 (2 nights)

Followed by: 4 days off

About the Role

We're looking for a Maintenance Shift Engineer to join our team in a fast‑paced, 24/7 manufacturing environment. This is a hands‑on leadership role where you'll support and guide a team of multi‑skilled technicians, ensuring plant reliability and driving continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support the shift‑based maintenance team, ensuring operational targets are met.
  • Provide hands‑on technical expertise across electrical and mechanical disciplines.
  • Monitor and maintain site services including HV switchgear, electrical distribution, process water, and compressors.
  • Manage and deliver improvement projects, including new machine installations and retrofits.
  • Drive lean and continuous improvement initiatives using tools such as 5Why and FMEA.
  • Reduce downtime and improve reliability through proactive maintenance strategies.
  • Coach and develop technicians in electrical activities and best practice.
Skills & Experience
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (or HNC with significant experience).
  • Completed an accredited electrical apprenticeship with strong hands‑on maintenance experience.
  • Expertise in PLC systems, AC/DC drives, and modern automation technologies.
  • Strong understanding of electrical control principles and hardware.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver innovative technical solutions.
