Maintenance Operative

Location: Cambridge

Salary: Up to £33,721 per annum (The starting salary will reflect the experience and skills of the appointed candidate)

Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full Time, 37.5 hours per week

The Role

This post is designed to support the smooth and efficient running of the Estates department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carpentry: replacement/repair of door and window fittings, repair of furniture, replacement glazing, fitting locks, handrails, erection of shelves, cupboards and displays.
  • Brick/Groundwork: the repair of masonry, concrete slabs, screeds, plastering and stud walls. Erecting new fencing, laying new paving, or paving repairs, patch tarmac repairs.
  • Roofing: repairs to flat roofing, flashing repairs, reconstruction of small roof structures, felting.
  • Flooring: laying of carpets, tiles and other floor coverings. Repairs to wooden floors as required.
  • Plumbing: repair and replacement of taps, lavatory pans, sinks, and finishes as required. The clearance of blockages in gutters, down pipes, gulleys and drains.
  • Decorating: preparation of floors, walls, ceilings and woodwork, the application of wallpaper, stains, emulsions, undercoats and gloss/satin paints.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Has worked in construction related environments
  • Work effectively in teams
  • Is self motivated and uses initiative
  • Can be flexible and work to changing priorities and deadlines
  • NVQ level 2 or above in relevant trades (Desirable)
  • H&S qualifications (Desirable)
  • Access related qualifications eg: IPAF, PASMA or safe use of ladders (Desirable)
  • Has worked in educational settings (Desirable)
