Maintenance Engineer
Starting Salary £32,367 - £36,399 per annum (plus opportunities for paid overtime)

The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge (LMB) is an internationally recognised scientific research institution.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Recruit two full-time Maintenance Engineers to join the Estates and Facilities team on a permanent contract: one with an electrical focus and one with a mechanical focus, depending on experience.
  • Provide electrical or mechanical planned and preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance (RM) on all plant systems and services.
  • Operate the computer-controlled Building Management Systems (BMS) to monitor and identify fault diagnostics, taking appropriate action to resolve issues.
  • Oversee the operation of steam boilers and systems; steam is used extensively throughout the sites and training will be given as required.
  • Be available on-call out-of-hours approximately 6-8 weeks per year (on a rota basis).
  • Hold a UK driving licence and live within a 30-mile radius of the main LMB building.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Completed a recognised electrical or mechanical apprenticeship or hold equivalent qualifications.
  • Experience working in a complex building with responsibility for electrical or mechanical systems and using a BMS.
  • Good working knowledge of engineering services and building maintenance and an understanding of HVAC systems.
  • Competent IT user, able to work as a team player and also independently with limited supervision.
  • A salary at the higher end of the advertised scale will be offered to candidates with substantial experience.
