Qualifications

  • Time-served apprenticeship + Level 3 Mechanical Qualification.
  • 3+ years' experience in medium or heavy manufacturing (steel, foundry, aerospace, automotive, etc.).
  • Comfortable working in a heavy-industry environment.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on heavy manufacturing machinery.
  • Mechanically fault-find on hydraulic presses.
  • Support long-term PPM and reliability improvement projects.

Salary: £52,000 + Overtime (OTE £60,000+)

⏱️ Shifts: 4 on / 4 off (Days & Nights, 7am-7pm)

Holidays: 33 Days

The Company

A leading engineering manufacturer is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join their growing Birmingham site. The operation employs 400+ people and runs a highly technical heavy‑industry environment with large hydraulic presses, CNC machinery, and modern forging equipment.

With major investment in new plant and long‑term contracts in the aerospace and defence supply chain, this is a stable, future‑focused business offering excellent security and progression.

The Role - Maintenance Engineer

You’ll help ensure the reliability and performance of high‑value machinery used across a demanding heavy‑industrial operation. This is a mechanically focused role working on complex equipment in a rewarding environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on heavy manufacturing machinery
  • Mechanically fault‑find on hydraulic presses
  • Work with hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, and drives
  • Read and interpret hydraulic & engineering drawings
  • Support long‑term PPM and reliability improvement projects
  • Replace and repair mechanical components to ensure safe operation
About You
Essential
  • Time‑served apprenticeship + Level 3 Mechanical Qualification
  • 3+ years' experience in medium or heavy manufacturing (steel, foundry, aerospace, automotive, etc.)
  • Strong mechanical fault‑finding skills (hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes)
  • Comfortable working in a heavy‑industry environment
  • Ability to read hydraulic and technical engineering drawings
Desirable
  • Experience in forging, foundry, metals, or aerospace
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Ambition to progress into supervisory or senior roles
