Simply Serve Limited provides specialist Estates and Facilities services to Yeovil District Hospital and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. We deliver a comprehensive range of healthcare support services, including property and facilities management, procurement, logistics, and engineering maintenance. We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Craftsperson to join our Community Maintenance team. You will play a key role in ensuring the effective day‑to‑day operation and maintenance of engineering plant and equipment across our community hospitals.

Main duties of the job

In this vital role, you will contribute to the delivery of both planned and reactive maintenance services, ensuring that all areas of the estate are safe, functional, and compliant. Your work will directly support the creation and upkeep of a secure and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff. You will collaborate closely with colleagues across departments, respond promptly to maintenance requests, and help implement preventative measures to reduce downtime. A strong commitment to safety, service excellence, and teamwork is essential for success in this role.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Fault‑finding and repair of mechanical systems and equipment, including hot and cold water systems, heating and ventilation, pumps, compressors, motors, and controls.
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs.
  • Working with colleagues, ward staff, and contractors to ensure safe and efficient service delivery.
  • Occasionally performing basic electrical tasks when required.
  • Maintaining accurate records and using our Facilities Management system for job tracking.

Qualifications
  • Completion of an Engineering Apprenticeship or NVQ L3 and two years continuous experience in the industry, together with the required minimum qualifications of a Level 3 in mechanical engineering.
  • Driving licence.
Experience
  • Minimum three years experience in the relevant trade.
  • Working knowledge of Legionella ACOP L8.
  • Experience working alongside other trades.
