Thisis 10 PA locum appointments for Consultant Anaesthetists. This post will beavailable as soon as possible for a period of 6 months.

Theposts will deliver 10 PAs flexibly supporting the anaesthetic team at the LeedsGeneral Infirmary and St Jamess University Hospital, Leeds.

Thesuccessful applicants should hold accreditation in FRCA in the Royal College ofAnaesthetists or equivalent and should be on the Specialist Register or withinsix months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in atraining programme within the UK at the time of interview or have referenceswhich have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and ClinicalDirector.

Weare looking for a motivated and skilled Locum Consultant Anaesthetist to joinour team at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. You'll work collaboratively withconsultant colleagues, delivering high-quality anaesthetic care across diversesurgical specialities. We'll rely on you to support service plans, adapting toevolving clinical practices and new technologies. You are expected to beinvolved in progressing the Clinical Governance agenda, ensuring the higheststandards of patient safety and care. You will have the opportunity to shapethe development of future doctors and anaesthetists by supervising and teachingundergraduates and anaesthesia residents. Job responsibilities

This is a 10 PA/week locum appointment for a Consultant in Anaesthetics, supporting the current anaesthetics team of over 150 Consultants for a duration of sixmonths.

The core purpose of this post is to work alongside other consultant colleagues todeliver a comprehensive anaesthetic service within the Leeds Teaching HospitalsTrust while actively supporting the speciality's service plans by embracing changes in clinical practice and new technologies. A key responsibility willalso be to engage with and advance Clinical Governance initiatives. Theappointee is expected to maintain and contribute to the existing teaching andresearch activities within the Trust, such as supervising resident doctors and undergraduate students.

This full-time Consultant Anaesthetics post involves 8.5 PAs of direct clinical careand 1.5 PAs for supporting professional activities, delivered within a carefully designed rota to ensure robust cover. Your job plan will be reviewedannually, with interim reviews as needed, and you will be manageriallyaccountable to the Chief Executive and professionally to the Chief MedicalOfficer. You are expected to adhere to the General Medical Council's "GoodMedical Practice" and the Trust's "Core Behaviours" for conduct,including reporting concerns about colleagues, and participate in mandatoryannual appraisals. All leave must follow Trust policy, typically requiring eight weeks' notice. You'll undertake all necessary training, including mandatory training and continuing medical education, which the Trust fullysupports with time and funding. The role provides necessary secretarial supportand IT facilities, and you must comply with all Trust Health and Safety andInfection Control policies, including Universal Infection Control Precautionsand diligent hand hygiene practices. Finally, maintaining strict patientconfidentiality is paramount.

Candidatesfor this post must hold FRCA or equivalent accreditation and have completed a recognised higher specialist training program in Anaesthesia or be within sixmonths of specialist registration in the UK. Essential requirements includedemonstrating extensive clinical experience and competence across all areas of anaesthesia, with prior experience in research being desirable. The successfulappointee will have the opportunity to contribute to clinical audit activities, including mortality and morbidity meetings, clinical audit programs, and the development and application of clinical guidelines, with allocated time intheir job plan for these supporting professional activities. They are alsoexpected to maintain and update their skills through continuous medicaleducation, as detailed in the separate person specification document.

Qualifications
Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Is up to date and fit to practise safely
  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients & colleagues demonstrated by one of the following
  • Applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English. OR
  • Achieved the minimum score of 7 across all 4 of the following categories in academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application
  • Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. (An overall minimum score of 7.5) OR
  • Achieved the minimum Grade B across all 4 of the following categories in the Occupational English Test (OET) in medicine in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application
  • Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. (You must provide your candidate number)
  • Medically fit to fulfil ALL aspects of the post, and to be able to respond quickly to emergencies, as necessary.
  • Meets professional health requirement (in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice).
Experience
  • Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances
  • Have completed a recognised training programme in Anaesthesia
Additional Requirements
  • Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) or European Community Rights
