The closing date is 21 December 2025
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locum Consultant in General Anaesthesia.
The post holder must be medically qualified, maintain GMC specialist registration and hold a licence to practice.
We are keen to attract motivated, hard-working colleagues who share our vision of a cohesive department focused on excellent patient care and outstanding multidisciplinary team collaboration.
This is primarily a clinical role, to be carried out across various Guy's and St Thomas' hospital sites, as well as our High Volume Low Complexity Hub at Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup.
The role is a full-time, 10 PA per week position, with 9 PAs designated for direct clinical care (DCC) and 1 PA for supporting professional activities (SPA).
The 9 PAs of clinical duties per week include elective theatre work and preoperative assessment clinics. Clinical work will take place over five days (Monday to Friday), with 1 in 10 weeks involving weekend work.
This is an outline program and you will be expected to discuss and agree upon a detailed job plan, including your personal and professional objectives, with the Clinical Leads and Director before starting the post.
The Theatre, Anaesthesia, and Peri-operative Medicine (TAP) directorate has increased its team of Consultant Anaesthetists by a third in the last three years, reflecting the continued rise in clinical activity. It now has over 100 consultants in adult anaesthesia, each with varied interests and specialist areas, working in the dynamic environments of Guy's and St Thomas' Foundation Trust and Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup.
TAP is one of the most exciting departments to work in across the country. The department includes a Professor in Anaesthesia, editors from Anaesthesia, members of the Association of Anaesthetists Council, the current President of the Royal College of Anaesthetists Council, and the current DAS President, among others. It is recognised as one of the most productive and engaging clinical, academic, and educational departments in the UK, with an energetic, forward-thinking approach to welcoming new colleagues.
The post is fixed-term, with a provisional 10 PA job plan outlined in the Job Description.
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated anaesthetist to join our busy department to provide emergency and elective care. The role encompasses general fields of anaesthesia across all hospital sites of the Trust; however, opportunities in specialist areas will be available based on relevant expertise, such as cardiothoracic and vascular anaesthesia, cardiology, major surgery, renal transplant, regional anaesthesia, orthopaedics, robotic surgery, and urology.
This post does not include contributing to the anaesthesia on-call rota.
The post holder will be expected to participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care.
In addition to clinical work, experience in education, teaching and training, governance, leadership, and research will be considered a significant advantage.
