We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Apprenticeship Skills Coach to join MTC Training. This will be a home‑based role with national travel. MTC’s vision is to develop a training capability that embeds adaptable knowledge, skills and behaviours that future‑proof UK manufacturing. Aligning technical content identified in MTC’s core business to our apprenticeship and commercial (engineer upskilling) is at the core of our strategy.

As an Apprenticeship Skills Coach your role is to ensure apprentices receive support, guidance and encouragement to succeed in their apprenticeship programme. You will bridge the gap between academic learning and practical application in the workplace with employers, and be involved in developing the new curriculum to ensure it is focused on industry practice and the learner journey.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of engineering and manufacturing apprentices
  • Monitor the health, safety and welfare of apprentices
  • Provide end‑to‑end information, advice and guidance on skills development, End Point Assessment and career development
  • Monitor and record progress against the Standard to ensure apprentices are developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required prior to their planned end dates
  • Conduct regular documented progress reviews with apprentices and their employers as per funding rules
  • Monitor apprentice off‑the‑job records
  • Complete any funding/MIS documentation such as Breaks in Learning, withdrawals on a timely basis
  • Plan and complete assessment of development competence qualifications
  • Plan and complete assessments of apprentice’s knowledge, skills and behaviours development, and build subsequent action plans for improvement where required
  • Use coaching methods in partnership with training centre colleagues and employers to help apprentices develop and apply knowledge, skills and behaviours in their workplace
  • Build and maintain relationships with apprentices and their employers to facilitate effective communication and collaboration ensuring that apprentices complete their apprenticeship within the planned duration
  • Provide regular caseload progress updates to the Leadership Team
  • Collaborate with Business Development colleagues to identify repeat and new business
Qualifications & Competencies
  • Strong background and experience of engineering (mechanical, electrical or electronic, multi‑skilled is preferable)
  • Customer and quality focused coach, able to operate across all MTC Training and client locations
  • Approachable, able to handle issues with sensitivity and confidentiality
  • Able to work under pressure, under tight deadlines, independently and with initiative, and within a team
  • Articulate, with strong communication skills, organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
Essential Qualifications
  • Level 3 Engineering qualification
  • Recognised teaching qualification or willingness to gain one
  • Recognised Assessor qualification, such as A1 or Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement
Desirable Skills & Experience
  • Functional Skills Level 2 / GCSEs or equivalent in Maths and English, grade C or above
  • Experience of using e‑portfolios (ideally Smart Assessor)
  • Experience of using learner management systems, such as Pro Monitor
  • Knowledge of assessment methods and techniques
  • Knowledge of coaching methods
  • Knowledge of engineering apprenticeship standards
  • Knowledge of apprenticeship funding rules
  • Knowledge of End Point Assessment
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and the Prevent Duty
  • Recognised quality assurance qualification (e.g. V1 or Level 4 Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice)
  • Recognised coaching qualification
  • Higher qualification (level 4 or above) in an engineering discipline
  • Digital training qualifications relevant to education (e.g. Microsoft Learn badges)

The successful applicant will be required to promptly complete training relating to safeguarding and prevent, and is expected to undertake ongoing training in relation to children's safety and wellbeing. The successful applicant will be expected to maintain our safeguarding culture and contribute to it by supporting the Designated Safeguarding Lead and safeguarding team, and adhere to our Code of Conduct and our commitment to the welfare of children.
