Location: Darwen
Hours: 8:00am – 4:00pm, Monday to Friday
Contract: Full-time

Role

Are you passionate about supporting young people who face significant challenges in education? We are looking for a committed and resilient Learning Mentor to join a specialist secondary alternative provision in Darwen.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with students who present with complex and challenging behaviours, helping them to re-engage with learning and build positive relationships within a supportive, structured environment.

Responsibilities
  • Build strong, consistent relationships with students to promote positive behaviour and engagement
  • Support students with emotional regulation, behavioural strategies, and conflict resolution
  • Work closely with teaching staff and SEN professionals to deliver tailored interventions
  • Assist in developing behaviour and support plans based on individual needs
  • Create a safe and inclusive learning environment where students feel valued and understood
  • Monitor student progress and maintain clear, confidential records
  • Encourage a sense of achievement, responsibility, and self-worth in each student
Qualifications
  • Experience working with children or young people with additional or behavioural needs
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent in a challenging environment
  • A resilient and empathetic approach to behaviour management
  • A background in youth work, mentoring, education, or similar settings is desirable
  • A genuine passion for helping young people succeed
