Lead Software Engineer - Global FinTech

Location: Belfast (Hybrid Working)

A global FinTech organisation is seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to join its growing engineering function in Belfast. This is a senior, high-impact role offering the opportunity to shape architecture, lead technical teams, and deliver mission-critical systems operating at scale.

The hiring manager is actively reviewing profiles and keen to engage with candidates who bring strong technical leadership, deep engineering experience, and a proven ability to design and deliver complex platforms.

The Role

As Lead Software Engineer, you will take ownership of technical direction while remaining hands‑on where it matters. You'll work closely with product, delivery and engineering teams to design scalable, secure solutions within a regulated, high‑volume environment.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the design and evolution of large‑scale, high‑performance software systems

• Providing technical leadership across architecture, development, and delivery

• Guiding engineers through complex problem‑solving and technical change

• Collaborating cross‑functionally with Product, QA, DevOps and Agile teams

• Mentoring and developing engineers through coaching, reviews and knowledge sharing

• Driving platform resilience, performance optimisation and long‑term scalability

What We’re Looking For

We’re particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate:

• A degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline

• 10+ years’ professional experience in software engineering

• A strong track record working on mission‑critical, high‑volume applications

• Proven ability to lead technical teams, influence architecture decisions, and mentor engineers

• Significant experience in system design, architecture at scale, and performance optimisation

Technical Environment

• Strong Java and Object‑Oriented Programming expertise

• Experience with modern development practices and cloud‑native architectures

• Exposure to technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, and modern front‑end frameworks is beneficial

• Comfortable working in Agile/Scrum delivery environments
