Astute’s EPC Power team is partnering with a leading EPCm Contractor within the UK Power Industry to recruit a Lead Mechanical Commissioning Engineer on a 12 months contract basis for their Waste to Energy facility based in the Glasgow area. This role is due to commence from February onwards.

The Lead Mechanical Commissioning Engineer will come with a day rate from £500.00 to £600.00.

Key skills and responsibilities:
  • Lead and coordinate all mechanical commissioning activities across boilers, turbines, flue gas treatment, fuel handling, cooling systems, and balance-of-plant equipment.
  • Develop and manage the mechanical commissioning schedule, ensuring alignment with the overall EPCM commissioning and start-up plan.
  • Review, verify, and approve commissioning procedures, method statements, inspection test plans (ITPs), and vendor documentation.
  • Oversee mechanical system energisation, functional testing, flushing, pressure testing, rotation checks, and performance validation.
  • Direct and supervise commissioning technicians, subcontractors, and vendor representatives to ensure safe and efficient execution of all commissioning tasks.
  • Interface with construction, engineering, QA/QC, and operations teams to resolve mechanical issues, design clashes, and punch-list items prior to handover.
  • Ensure strict compliance with site safety procedures, permit systems, risk assessments, and commissioning readiness requirements.
  • Coordinate with DCS/automation teams to support system integration, loop checks, and completion of mechanical-to-control interfaces.
  • Manage commissioning documentation, including test records, commissioning logs, punch lists, and mechanical handover packages.
  • Support performance testing, reliability runs, and final acceptance activities to ensure the WtE plant meets contractual and environmental performance criteria.

  • Glasgow area
  • £500.00 to £600.00 per day
