As a Lead HMI Engineer, you will be responsible to lead the requirement, design, implementation, development and testing SCADA/ HMI for HVDC Control & Protection system. As part of this role, you will be working closely across various engineering disciplines within HVDC business. this includes developing organizational talent and Engineering process management, provide technical guidance, mentoring, drive consistent design practices, common global processes for projects implementation and provide technical solution that meets the NPI, project delivery and Tender objectives.
Responsibilities
- Lead overall requirement, design, implementation, and testing of SCADA/ HMI for HVDC Control & Protection system.
- Draft functional specification and HMI design requirements, including symbol and view specifications.
- Manage face‑to‑face customer meetings and close all Technical Queries.
- Provide extensive experience with HMI/SCADA technologies, implementation, testing and installation.
- Utilise industrial communication protocols (IEC61850, IEC60870, DNP3, Modbus, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with GEV core principles of Safety, Quality, Delivery Cost (SQDC).
- Test and debug complex IEC61850 communication systems using tools such as IEDScout, Wireshark, etc.
- Coordinate with teams to capture all HMI signals in the Master Signal List (MSL) to meet customer requirements.
- Review configuration files for RTUs, BCUs, CCUs and Merging Units.
- Support HSIT, IST FST and FAT witness with customers.
- Apply networking and cybersecurity best practices.
- Prepare and present technical information for Substation Control Systems to internal and external customers.
- Provide guidance for analysis and evaluation of projects to meet business standards and product/program requirements.
- Coach and develop department talent.
- Apply judgment to make decisions on operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering tasks.
- Assist site activities for installation and commissioning of control systems.
- Ensure proper documentation of technical data consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
- Follow department design practices, engineering reviews, and guidelines.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Strong background in HMI software configuration, preferably with Zenon COPA‑DATA or Panorama‑CODRA.
- 10+ years of experience in HMI development in the electrical field (DC or AC side).
- Awareness of security/hardening best practices for HMI products and Windows environments.
- Knowledge of distributed control systems and substation automation.
- Experience with industrial communication networks such as Profibus and Ethernet‑based protocols.
- Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems, lead programs/projects, and document, plan, market, and execute programs.
- Proven technical leadership in a complex system engineering development environment.
- Proactively serves on cross‑functional leadership teams, making independent decisions and engaging experts.
- Track record of designing quality systems/components that exceed design requirements, beat cost targets, and exceed reliability targets.
- Broadening knowledge of own technical discipline.
