Job summary

Southern Water is seeking a Principal EICA Engineer to lead Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation disciplines within capital delivery programmes. You will steer design governance, drive innovative solutions, and ensure high safety, quality, and sustainability standards across projects.

You will manage complex technical challenges, collaborate with stakeholders, and mentor a team of engineers while representing the company at industry events.

Qualifications

• Degree or HNC in Electrical & Electronic Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer status with the IET.
• Significant experience leading design/delivery of water/wastewater projects in the UK.
• Extensive knowledge of EICA principles, design processes, and standards.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and govern complex programmes.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Commercial awareness with whole-life cost experience and budgeting.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and governance across EICA activities within water and wastewater projects.
• Lead development, review and approval of engineering designs, calculations, specifications and technical documentation.
• Manage complex technical challenges and ensure compliance with safety, quality, environmental and regulatory standards.
• Support project delivery by overseeing programme performance, budgets and whole-life cost solutions.
• Build strong relationships with internal/external stakeholders, consultants and partners.
• Drive standardisation and continuous improvement, including adoption of digital engineering solutions.
• Lead, mentor and develop junior engineers and support capability development.
• Represent Southern Water at industry forums and technical events.
