Job description

Waracle is looking for a Lead or Senior Backend Developer for an exciting new role joining our world-class digital technology consultancy and home to a diverse, smart, curious and ambitious community of specialists in technology-driven transformation. We work with ambitious clients to help them solve their biggest business and customer challenges. We help our clients to innovate and create intelligent digital products and services. We thrive on complex challenges and deliver business-critical IT transformation projects, moving seamlessly from strategy, design and delivery to operations.

This role is open to permanent or contract (Inside IR35) candidates and is a hybrid working role based from any Waracle office (Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee or London).

Are you a technical expert who enjoys solving complex puzzles and helping others grow? We are looking for a Lead or Senior Developer who values collaboration and technical excellence in equal measure. Whether you are already leading squads or are a seasoned Senior Developer ready to step into a more strategic architectural role, we offer a psychologically safe environment where your voice is heard. We pride ourselves on a culture that is inclusive and encouraging, and we particularly welcome applications from female developers looking to make their mark in a leadership capacity.

Key aspects of the role include:
  • Architectural Stewardship: You won't just follow a blueprint; you’ll help create it. You will own the project-level technical architecture, ensuring that high-level designs are translated into efficient, maintainable systems that stand the test of time.
  • Technical Governance & Excellence: Act as a champion for quality. You’ll design and implement development standards and coding practices across squads, ensuring our output is consistent, secure, and of the highest caliber.
  • Mentorship & Psychological Safety: A huge part of this role is people-centric. You will coach and mentor engineers, fostering a supportive environment where team members feel safe to innovate, ask questions, and learn from mistakes.
  • Strategic Problem Solving: You’ll bridge the gap between business needs and technical reality. By collaborating with Product Owners and DevOps, you’ll identify technical debt and security risks, ensuring they are prioritised and resolved effectively.
  • Innovation & Continuous Learning: Stay at the forefront of the industry. You’ll identify new tools and methodologies, conducting sessions to upskill the team and driving a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: You’ll translate complex technical jargon into clear, actionable insights for business stakeholders, ensuring project objectives are met with transparency and trust.
What you'll bring:
  • Technical Expertise: Strong experience in the SDLC with hands‑on skills in .NET, C#, APIs, and Azure Functions.
  • Cloud & Infrastructure: Expertise in Azure (IaaS, PaaS, Microservices) and working knowledge of SQL Server.
  • Automation: Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code using Bicep, Terraform, or ARM.
  • Adaptive Mindset: A resilient, positive attitude with a focus on building strong professional relationships.
  • Desirable: Microsoft Azure Certifications (such as AZ-104 or AZ-204).
Recruitment Process

The recruitment process you can expect for this role is an initial call with your dedicated Talent Acquisition Partner who will chat with you about Waracle, what you are looking for in a new position, the salary for the role, notice period and benefits. Our Benefits
  • Rest & Recharge: 27 days of annual leave plus 8 bank holidays, totaling 35 days of holiday.
  • Financial Future & Security: Company‑matched 5% pension contribution and a Death in Service benefit (2x annual salary).
  • Health & Wellness: Medicash Health Cash Plans, Employee Assistance Programme, and Group Sickness Cover.
  • Flexible Working: We champion hybrid working and provide a home office setup budget.
  • Learning & Development: Access to Udemy Business and a dedicated L&D budget for continuous growth.
  • Family First: Enhanced parental leave policies, including support for fertility journeys.
