Overview

I am currently working with a long-established and highly respected regional law firm that is seeking to recruit an experienced Costs Lawyer or Law Costs Draftsman to join its busy and growing Costs team at its Leeds City Centre head office.

This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside award-winning legal departments including Clinical Negligence, Inquest Law and Personal Injury. The firm supports both internal and external clients on high-quality work, with a strong focus on collaboration, flexibility and career development.

About the role

You’ll join a dedicated Costs team that provides comprehensive costs services across a diverse caseload. This includes work on Clinical Negligence, Personal Injury, Inquest Law, Professional Negligence, Historic Abuse, and some Defendant Housing Disrepair claims. You’ll benefit from administrative support to allow you to focus on drafting, negotiating and advising.

Key responsibilities
  • Drafting traditional three-column bills of costs and Precedent S bills
  • Preparing budgets, including Precedent H documents
  • Drafting Points of Dispute and Replies
  • Advising on and negotiating costs settlements
  • Analysing offers and providing strategic cost advice
  • Working closely with solicitors, clients and external professionals
  • Maintaining compliance with procedural rules and funding requirements
  • Using a case management system effectively and keeping accurate records
About you
  • Proven experience as a Costs Lawyer or Law Costs Draftsman
  • Experience working on clinical negligence, personal injury or similar matters is highly desirable
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle a varied caseload
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Confident using IT systems including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Organised, proactive and adaptable in a busy team environment
  • Degree-educated or equivalent experience
