Job description
Overview

The post holder will be responsible for the day to day management and clinical leadership for the intrapartum services within our tertiary unit providing care to the women of Coventry, Warwickshire and the surrounding areas. The post holder will be a reactive and responsive team lead by the use of effective organisational skills, good communication and multidisciplinary working.

Daily Duties

On a daily basis the post holder will be an adaptive and encouraging leader, supporting women's choices and have the ability to seek support when needed. Everyday duties include the management of the acuity to maintain patient flow to ensure safety and quality within the unit. Other responsibilities and opportunities include leadership of the daily LMNS huddle, sickness management and bleep holder duties.

Unit Context

The UHCW maternity unit environment is interesting, unpredictable and challenging, with up to 6000 births per year. The Co-ordinator will be faced with many competing demands for attention and will be expected to exercise excellent judgement in dealing with both clinical and interpersonal challenges throughout the unit.

Immunisation Requirement

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Key Leadership Responsibilities

Provide a high standard of professional Midwifery leadership and expert advice to Midwives and the multi-disciplinary team.

Ensure effective, safe and responsive day to day management of the Labour Ward, supervising and managing all staff to maintain high standards of care.

Ensure an effective learning environment for both students and qualified staff, identifying learning needs. To liaise with senior midwives including the Clinical Preceptor Midwifery team with regards to training requirements.

Ensure effective multidisciplinary working relationships promoting partnership with the maternity unit, allied groups within the trust and public and voluntary sectors.

Ensure care is delivered using the resources available.

Ensure all Labour Ward activity data is collected and recorded via the electronic reporting tool.

24 hour responsibility for the maternity unit with support from the Maternity senior management team via the escalation policy.

To participate in the maternity unit on call rota.

To act up for Ward Manager as required and the opportunity to develop related skills as appropriate.
