We’re looking for a dedicated Kitchen Manager to lead our brand-new school kitchen, delivering approximately 180 meals daily, including 60 transported meals. Your focus will be on providing high-quality, nutritious food while managing kitchen operations, staff, and budgets.


As Kitchen Manager, you’ll support the Operations team in setting high standards, training site teams, and ensuring smooth, customer-focused service. Strong leadership and a passion for food are essential in building positive relationships with students, staff, and clients.

The Role

  • Develop and maintain high food standards, ensuring compliance with menus and dietary needs.
  • Manage portion control, waste reduction, and customer satisfaction.
  • Engage with clients for feedback and service improvements.
  • Ensure all safety protocols, risk assessments, and hygiene standards are followed.
  • Regularly talk with clients and customers about the standard of our service.
  • Have a hands-on approach with schools, clients and customers to deliver a more customer focused offer at unit level.

About You

  • Experience as Kitchen Manager or the potential to develop from a catering assistant with additional training and development.
  • Ability to independently travel across the contract.
  • Advanced understanding of school catering and excellent food preparation and cooking skills.
  • Demonstrate acceptable level of understanding of Health and Safety and accident prevention.
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding profit and loss.
  • Excellent interpersonal, administrative and organisational skills.

SS FS Education serves around 90,000 meals every day. Our markets include primary, secondary and SEN schools, as well as colleges and universities. We are Food for Life Catering Mark holders and currently serve accredited menus to around 400 sites across the UK.
