Overview

Mechanical Fitter – Location: Coventry (CV5 area)

About the Role

We’re seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter to support the assembly, installation, and testing of automated machinery. You’ll be hands-on with mechanical sub-assemblies and systems, ensuring all components are built, aligned, and adjusted to precise standards. This role offers involvement in the full machine build process, from assembly through to commissioning, making it ideal for an experienced Mechanical Fitter looking for a new challenge.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble and fit mechanical components and sub-assemblies (gears, shafts, bearings, housings, fasteners, etc.) to engineering drawings.
  • Install and align mechanical systems including motors, gearboxes, couplings, belts, pulleys, and guides.
  • Carry out adjustments, calibrations, and minor modifications during build and testing.
  • Assist with commissioning, trial runs, and fault correction.
  • Perform servicing tasks such as lubrication and wear checks.
  • Maintain quality standards, workshop safety, and accurate records of work.
What We’re Looking For
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Mechanical Fitter, in machine build, or mechanical assembly.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge including alignment, tolerances, and fastening techniques.
  • Confident reading and working from engineering drawings.
  • Skilled with workshop tools and precision measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers, levels, etc.).
  • A practical, detail-focused approach with good teamwork and communication skills.
  • Awareness of workshop health & safety practices.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience with automated machinery or special-purpose builds.
  • Knowledge of servo systems, robotics, or motion control.
  • Welding, fabrication, or machining experience.
  • Mechanical maintenance or overhaul background.
Qualifications
  • Mechanical/engineering qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, Apprenticeship) preferred.
  • GCSE or equivalent including Maths & English.
