Job description

Fortress Recruit is working with a well-established engineering organisation to appoint a Junior Electronic Design Engineer to their team in Poole.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to build hands‑on experience in electronic and electrical design, working alongside experienced engineers on projects that support complex systems operating in demanding environments. You’ll be involved across the design lifecycle, gaining exposure to robust hardware development for next‑generation technology.

Key responsibilities include :
  • Assisting with the design and development of electronic hardware, with a focus on power supply and electrical distribution
  • Supporting the production of schematics and PCB layouts using recognised CAD tools
  • Preparing and maintaining technical documentation such as specifications, bills of materials, and test records
  • Working closely with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to support system integration
  • Assisting with validation, testing, and design reviews throughout the development lifecycle
  • Supporting ongoing improvements and obsolescence management for existing systems
To be considered for this role, you'll have :
  • A qualification in Electronics or Electrical Engineering (HNC, HND, or degree level)
  • Some practical experience in electronic or electrical hardware development (industry, placement, or project-based)
  • An understanding of power electronics, power supplies, or electrical distribution
  • An interest and / or knowledge in full product lifecycle, from concept through to manufacture
  • A willingness to learn and develop skills while supporting both new and existing designs
  • A proactive mindset with good attention to detail and clear communication skills
  • Full right to work in the UK (5 years residency without requirement for visa or sponsorship)

This role offers structured support, mentoring, and the chance to grow within a collaborative and forward‑thinking engineering team, working on technically interesting and rewarding products.

This is a full‑time, permanent role based on‑site in Poole, Dorset, with possibility of travel to UK and overseas customer sites for support or installation activities as experience develops.
