Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Peterborough seeks a Junior Electrical Design Engineer to assist in designing MCC panels and related systems. The ideal candidate should have a technical qualification in Electrical Engineering and some experience with electrical design software like AutoCAD. Responsibilities include supporting I/O configurations, updating cable lists, and participating in electrical testing. Good communication skills and a willingness to learn are essential, along with a valid UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design of MCC panels including motor circuits.
  • Prepare and update cable lists and basic sizing calculations.
  • Support preparation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements in line with CDM regulations.

Junior Electrical Design Engineer

Peterborough

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the design of MCC panels, including motor circuits, safety circuits, PLC equipment and panel layouts
  • Support the production of I/O configurations, I/O lists, material specifications and bills of materials
  • Prepare and update cable lists, basic sizing calculations, electrical test sheets and single–line diagrams
  • Assist with cable routing design, containment sizing and updates to building layout drawings
  • Support the preparation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) in line with CDM regulations
  • Assist with on–site modifications to electrical hardware and panels (24VDC, 230VAC, 415VAC) under supervision
  • Take part in electrical testing and basic fault–finding activities on site
  • Work closely with senior engineers and other disciplines to learn best practices and improve design quality
Required Qualifications & Experience:
  • Technical/Vocational qualification or degree in Electrical Engineering, or C&Aplus;G Level 3 / NVQ Level 3
  • Working knowledge of BS7671 and general electrical safety requirements
  • Some experience or exposure to AutoCAD, EPLAN, Amtech or similar electrical design software
  • Basic understanding of PLCs, drives and control gear (e.g. Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider)
  • Comfortable using Excel and standard engineering documentation
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions and develop technical skills
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well within a team
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel occasionally (UK and limited overseas)
Desirable (Not Essential)
  • Previous experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Exposure to MCC panels, control panels or site–based electrical work
  • Awareness of commissioning or testing activities
