Job summary

A leading NHS trust is seeking a Junior Clinical Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedics, responsible for supporting fracture clinics, assisting in trauma theatres, and covering trauma wards across Bournemouth and Poole sites. Applicants must have full GMC registration, a medical degree, and at least one year of experience in relevant medical roles. The position includes on-call responsibilities and promotes flexible working. This is a permanent position with a focus on enhancing care delivery and supporting senior staff members.

Junior Clinical Fellow - Trauma & Orthopaedics

University Hospitals Dorset Foundation Trust is currently seeking to appoint a Trust Junior Clinical Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedics.

We have one Trauma post (to include on calls) or 1 Orthogeriatric posts (to include ward cover).

Applicants are invited to apply for the post of Junior Clinical Fellow which is offered on a permanent position. The successful candidates must have full registration with the GMC, a recognised Medical degree and at least 1 year experience of house jobs in Trauma & Orthopaedics or Medicine/Medicine for the Elderly.

The applicant should be able to work flexibly and to act on own initiative and to support senior staff members.

In order to deliver this level of service applicants should have proven experience of on-calls and ward cover.

Main duties of the job
  • Cover the requirements of the on call rota and TOACU (Trauma & To Orthopaedic Ambulatory Care Unit).
  • Assist in our main trauma theatres.
  • Support fracture clinics.
  • Cover the Trauma Wards across both Poole and Bournemouth Hospital to include out of hours and weekends.
  • Orthogeriatric shift rota coverage across Bournemouth and Poole sites, covering ward cover for four trauma wards at Poole Hospital and the two inpatient elective wards at Bournemouth Hospital. Doctors work a 12-week rolling rota including day, evening and weekend shifts covering the wards.

Any other changes unrelated to this will be handled in line with Trust/National terms and conditions.

Person Specification
  • Full GMC Registration with licence to practice.
  • Minimum 1 year of house jobs and prior Orthopaedic or Medicine/Medicine for the Elderly experience.
  • Basic MBBS or Equivalent.
  • Clinical Attachment in Trauma & Orthopaedics at least two months.
  • Teaching and presentation skills.
  • MRCS part 1 or 2.
  • ALS.
  • Evidence of involvement in audit & research projects.
  • GMC recognised medical degree.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and use initiative.
  • Capacity to work under presssure.
