UHDB require Junior Clinical Fellow posts in Emergency Medicine at the Royal Derby Hospital site. These posts are intended to provide the clinician with post-Foundation experience in Emergency Medicine.

We have recently undergone a period of redesign and refurbishment of our on site Minor Injuries department offering a more streamlined process of managing all walk in patients through appropriate signposting and subsequent management.

The post would be ideal for those who are:

  • Considering a career in Emergency Medicine or Acute Specialities and looking for the support and training required to successfully apply for a training post.
  • Planning to pursue a career in Emergency Medicine or Acute Specialities and looking to undertake their training at the RDH site in Derby.
  • Undecided on a career path and are looking to undertake an additional acute post prior to future applications.

As a trusted organisation at the heart of our communities, we recognise the important role we can play in supporting the public, patients, our own people and local partners in achieving the best of health for the local population and the communities in which they live by providing Exceptional Care Together.

Our fundamental Values of Compassion, Openness and Excellence underpin how we intend to work as a Trust and the associated behaviours are becoming embedded in all aspects of how we work.

In return we will offer:

  • Development opportunities, including both professional and leadership development.
  • On-going support through every step of the way from recruitment to when you join our team and beyond.
  • A variety of other staff benefits including employee assistance programme, discounted gym membership, onsite fitness classes, and car schemes.

Key Facts about our Trust:

  • We see on average 4,810 OP appointments per day.
  • We are the 4th busiest Trauma & Orthopaedic outpatients department in England – an average of 2,077 per week.
  • An average of 1,115 patients are seen in A&Es across our network every day – 3rd largest in the country.
  • Our hospitals admit an average of 195 emergency patients daily.
  • Last year we undertook almost 33,700 planned surgical operations in our 57 operating theatres.
  • We are one of only 7 Trusts nationally with more than 50 operating theatres.
  • We carry out more than 140 elective procedures each working day.

These posts will include clinical experience in the Emergency Department as well as specific teaching, training and support depending on career aspirations.

The post holder is expected to commit to ongoing personal development and to show a commitment to maintaining and developing skills and professional knowledge relevant to the post, and to develop a portfolio of evidence.

We have opportunities for you to undertake flexible working and would be more than happy to discuss this with you prior to interview.

The rotation is initially offered on a fixed term contract for 12 months. Depending on the wishes of the successful applicant this can then be extended, based on successful, objective progression throughout the post, onto a longer-term contract.

Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice at the time of application is essential. Applicants must also be eligible to work in the UK and have excellent skills in written and spoken English, adequate to enable highly effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues.
