Job description
Junior Charge Nurse - Gazzard Day Unit

The closing date is 04 January 2026

Gazzard Day Unit is both a chemotherapy and HIV day treatment service, based at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. We are part of the largest HIV centre in Europe. Our opening times are Monday‑Friday 8‑6pm.

A Band 6 nurse position has arisen for a friendly and dedicated team. Caring for patients undergoing chemotherapy and/or HIV is essential, alongside venepuncture and cannulation. Experience in the administration of systemic anti‑cancer therapy would be desirable, but the unit actively encourages education and progression.

GDU consists of a combination of beds, treatment chairs and negative pressure facilities. Patients typically have diagnoses of lung, urological, haematological or HIV‑related malignancies. They attend for chemotherapy, supportive therapies, central line management and oncological emergencies, and may be admitted to hospital via GDU. These regular attendances facilitate continuity of care and close professional relationships.

The candidate should have excellent clinical and communication skills, a compassionate nature and be willing to work closely with the Senior Charge Nurse to develop and provide an exceptional patient experience and supportive learning environment for staff.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is a senior clinical staff member and team leader, with significant clinical experience, providing sound expertise to the team and coordinating high quality care. They serve as a role model and lead on projects and management functions as delegated by the Sister/Charge Nurse, embodying the Trust values.

In general settings they act as the assigned deputy for their manager, coordinating clinical, managerial and educational requirements, and upholding high standards of care.

In specialist settings they provide specialist clinical knowledge and guidance.

Please note: Some roles may require weekend shifts at multiple sites.
