Job description
Overview

Are you tired of the typical, chaotic ways of doing things in construction? Do you want to improve delivery through a pragmatic mix of planning, technology, and common sense? This role offers hands‑on construction work with a focus on improved delivery and flexible work arrangements.

Laminar Projects is a high‑end project management consultancy and tech developer focused on upgrading how construction projects are delivered. We bring transparency and control to projects through a pragmatic mix of the latest tech, our processes, and a strong emphasis on people. We develop digital solutions like Shape to help deliver projects better. Our people are central to our mission and culture, designed to enable personal and professional flourishing. Since 2017 we have grown to over 220 people with a stable client base across infrastructure and complex building projects in the UK and internationally.

We seek to grow by challenging ourselves and guiding our clients to improved outcomes. Joining us is a transformative learning experience with diverse and interesting challenges available. We encourage you to pursue areas you are most interested in, and we will enable that development.

The Role

Purpose of the role

You will enhance delivery on the world’s most complex projects through strong project planning. You will devise strategies to improve project delivery, translate these into a logic‑linked plan, analyze it with planning software, and help teams understand what to prioritise.

Your team

This role is part of our Project Management Consultancy team, focusing on:

  • Understanding the real problems of projects
  • Implementing the best solutions to those problems
  • Developing scalable best practices, tools and technology

You will be part of our Project Planning Team, leaders in planning for complex construction projects, reporting to a planning discipline director.

Your top three objectives

  1. To make construction projects deliver to near perfection
  2. To create scalable and repeatable solutions to common problems
  3. To develop yourself and everyone around you

Your top five responsibilities

  1. Own the plan: Own the project plan for one or more projects and ensure the project is operating to it effectively. Mitigate delays and manage commercially
  2. Own the outcome: Ensure the project team understands and focuses on the plan, adapting as needed
  3. Report and inform: Provide simple, actionable reports to stakeholders to help them deliver their part efficiently
  4. Make scalable solutions: Develop scalable, repeatable best practices and tools with the team for long‑term impact
  5. Develop everyone: Maximise the development of your team and educate clients to improve as well

You must have:

  • A construction engineering background: At least 2+ years on construction projects, experience in project planning (software and principles), strong Excel skills, and a keen interest in data
  • Communication skills: Proficient in written and verbal English with the ability to influence construction teams
  • Leadership capabilities: Proactive self‑leadership and the ability to lead others by asking the right questions
  • Impact: A track record of implementing scalable, repeatable solutions with significant positive impact

Laminar isn’t the place for you if any of the following is true:

  • You want an easy, chilled‑out role without challenge
  • You like to be the smartest person in the room
  • You don’t like receiving honest candid feedback
  • You prefer to work solo rather than with a team
