Overview

Infection Prevention and Control is at the top of the agenda at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We currently have an opportunity for an experienced IPC band 7 registered nurse/healthcare practitioner to join our team. We are looking for someone who firmly believes in improving safety for patients and staff. The role will challenge and develop the many skills you already have whilst creating and identifying a new set.

Responsibilities
  • Covering four hospital sites and satellite services across Oxfordshire with a wide range of specialties; identify infectious patients and provide management advice to protect others.
  • Involvement in teaching and education and advising clinical teams.
  • Work as part of a 7-day IPC service, including weekends and bank holidays.
  • Provide specialist infection prevention and control support to maintain and develop a high-quality IPC service; contribute to day-to-day maintenance and development.
  • Support infection prevention and control policy development, surveillance, and outbreak management across OUHFT.
  • Create quality improvement projects in IPC and lead them with team support.
  • Work autonomously, be a role model for IPC practice, and communicate effectively across clinical areas.
About OUH and Team

The IPC team has access to the combined expertise of the ID/Microbiology Consultant team, Modernising Medical Microbiology and Big Infection Diagnostics at NIHR Oxford Biomedical Research Centre to investigate healthcare-associated infection and outbreaks in collaboration with Oxford University. OUH is an airborne HCID regional facility as part of the national HCID network since July 2025.
