A leading engineering solutions provider is looking for an O&M Engineer/SAP with expertise in high voltage systems. This permanent role, based in Birmingham, requires hands-on experience with safety-compliant procedures and strong project management skills. Candidates should possess an HNC in Electrical Engineering along with experience in private networks and a sound understanding of Health & Safety legislation. A full UK driving licence is essential for this position which offers competitive pay and additional benefits.
O&M Engineer/SAP(High Voltage)
Based: Midlands, UK + UK Travel
£40,000 – £50,000 + Overtime + Company Vehicle + Private Medical
We’re hiring on behalf of a leading privately owned ICP with a strong presence in the new connections and renewables sector. This is a permanent position based in the Midlands, within a business that puts training, safety, and quality of work front and centre.
The company ensures all engineers are equipped with the training, qualifications, and hands‑on experience they need to succeed — safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
Inspection and maintenance of LV/HV substation equipment
Protection testing
HV/LV jointing and cable terminations
Troubleshooting and fault finding
Installation of switchgear and transformers
Testing of earthing systems and associated equipment
Producing remedial works quotations
Compiling work packages, job instructions and RAMS
Coordinating technicians, craftspeople, and subcontractors
Managing resource allocation across projects
Liaising with clients and stakeholders to manage project expectations and deliverables
Ensuring projects meet technical and safety requirements
Planning and executing HV switching and isolations up to 33kV
Issuing permits and documentation per company and customer safety rules
Testing systems, analysing results, and compiling reports
HNC in Electrical Engineering (preferably in Power Distribution)
Experience with private networks and/or the renewable energy sector
Familiarity with current Health & Safety legislation
GWO Certification (for onshore wind farms) (optional)
Emergency First Aid & Manual Handling
A full, clean UK driving licence
Strong IT and organisational skill
Collaborative and team-oriented
Clear communicator with a positive mindset
Able to interpret technical diagrams and explain concepts clearly
Strong problem-solving and decision‑making skills
Capable of working under pressure and managing multiple tasks
