HSEQ Manager
The Role

As an HSEQ Manager, you will support a number of projects to meet the requirements of the Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality Management systems. You will report to the Head of HSEQ for your area, supporting site teams and managers through inspections, recognising hazards and minimising risks while championing HSEQ initiatives in the region and ensuring legislation is adhered to.

Key Responsibilities
  • Promote Occupational Health & Wellbeing
    • Support the provision of health & wellbeing within the business under the direction of the Head of HSEQ & HSEQ Director.
    • Support communication and promotion of the monthly themes.
    • Promote the value of occupational health at a regional level.
  • HSEQ Advice and support to HSEQ Advisors
    • Provide consistent and accurate HSEQ advice to Advisors and Site Teams where applicable.
    • Render support to the region on HSEQ initiatives/issues.
    • Produce regional HSEQ statistics monthly, identify trends and take proactive initiatives.
    • Line‑manage HSEQ Advisors and mentor them to allow professional development.
    • Offer support to the site teams on our Be Right First Time initiatives and monitor our quality control as defined by the HSEQ Systems & Audit Manager.
  • Collaboration and Client Support
    • Provide client support for the region under your control.
    • Attend Client HSEQ Forums as required and provide lessons‑learnt feedback and best‑practice sharing.
    • Form collaborative relationships with Client HSEQ Management.
  • HSEQ Communications & HSE Statistics
    • Contribute to and support company‑level HSEQ communications and embed at the regional level.
    • Produce and communicate HSEQ alerts following incidents and poor-quality standards to promote learning and prevention.
    • Support the Head of HSEQ in maintaining HSE performance statistics monthly as requested.
    • Deliver awareness training and lead site stand‑downs.
  • Accident/incident investigations
    • Support HSEQ Advisors and complete investigation reviews for HSE investigations.
    • Keep local and corporate management informed on the status.
    • Identify root causes.
    • Support the production of HSE alerts.
    • Act as an independent investigator in other areas of the business under the direction of the HSEQ Director.
  • HSEQ Monitoring
    • Conduct regular visits to support your Advisory Team within the area of your control.
    • Perform HSEQ detailed inspections monthly in your control with targets agreed with your Head of HSEQ or HSEQ Director.
    • Act as a role model for HSEQ in the area under your control.
    • Monitor HSEQ Advisor inspections and ensure findings are closed out on time.
    • Agree on Advisor monthly inspection targets and monitor compliance.
  • Facilities Management at Company Premises
    • Provide management support for Facilities Managers at the regional company premises on HSE‑related issues and provisions.
    • Monitor HSE standards at the regional company premises and ensure legal obligations are being upheld.

    Essential
    • NEBOSH general certificate or equivalent, ideally IOSH.
    • CEnv or equivalent, ideally associate ISEP (Institute of Sustainability & Environmental Practices).
    • Extensive HSEQ experience within a civil engineering environment; rail sector experience is beneficial but not essential.
    • Knowledge of quality controls associated with company work activities.
    • Analytical skills to interpret detailed information and regulations.
    • High standard of written English.
    • Good communication skills, including a professional telephone manner.
    • People skills – ability to liaise with staff/operatives at all levels within Barhale.
    • MS Office – Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
    • Effective communicator with strong presentation and report‑writing skills.
    • CSCS Safety Professional card.
    • Able to work as a member of a team, but capable of working alone to tight deadlines as appropriate.
    • Commitment to Health, Safety, Environment & Quality.
    Desirable
    • Level 3 AET or PTTLS preferred but not essential.
    • Working towards NEBOSH Diploma level 6.
