Job description

Title: HSE Specialist
Salary: Dependent on experience
Working hours: Day Shift, Monday - Friday (37.5 hours)
Location: Shepshed, Leicestershire

HSE Specialist Role
  • Support and provide leadership to the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) function, ensuring full compliance with environmental, industrial, health, and safety regulations across the facility.
  • Take a proactive leadership role in planning, conducting, and leading audits.
  • Ensure timely and appropriate corrective actions are implemented at the appropriate organisational level to address identified HSE hazards.
  • Conduct audits and safety inspections of work environments, processes, and operations to ensure compliance with government regulations and industry standards.
  • Ensure all required registrations, permits, and licenses are obtained, maintained, and current; oversee the compliant and timely disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with regulations, company policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with business units to implement and sustain HSE programs, policies, and services.
  • Lead safety committees, assess hazardous conditions, and identify effective risk mitigation strategies, empowering team members to achieve departmental safety goals and objectives.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee compliance and HSE training programs for team members.
  • Lead and direct day-to-day activities in alignment with business needs and priorities.
  • Where applicable, support staff selection and drive performance management, development, and training initiatives to build team capability, flexibility, and alignment with business goals through clearly defined objectives.
  • Exercise sound independent judgment and discretion on matters of significance.
  • Achieve department goals along with supporting wider business goals.
You'll Need
  • Previous experience of operating within a HSE appointment within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Understand relevant legislation, regulations and standards within HSE.
  • Able to collate data and deliver reports to Senior Stakeholders.
  • Present to the Senior Leadership Teams outlining areas for Continuous Improvement within a HSE capacity.
  • Highly organised, has attention to detail and the ability to identify 'problem areas' and provide solutions.
  • Able to work independently, adopt a proactive approach and achieve departmental deadlines.
  • Good communications skills with the ability to provide insights, advice and roll out new processes to small and large teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft packages, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook.
