Head of HR / HR Director

Based Chesterfield, with hybrid working and occasional travel

Competitive executive package

Overview

We're supporting a long‑established engineering group. After a period of considerable organisational change, the business is now focused on restoring stability, rebuilding confidence, and shaping a people strategy that will carry it into its next stage of growth. To lead this work, we are seeking a Head of HR / HR Director who can provide clear direction, steady leadership, and the credibility to influence across a complex, international environment.

Responsibilities

Lead the full people agenda and leadership of a capable HR team. The early focus will centre on embedding a multi‑site restructuring programme, strengthening succession pipelines in key technical and commercial areas, re‑establishing engagement and cultural clarity following a demanding year, defining a refreshed HR identity and operating model, and guiding the HR team through a period of transition and uplift.

The remit spans organisational development, ensuring structures, capabilities, and leadership behaviours are fit for the future; talent and succession, with an emphasis on developing critical roles; HR function leadership, driving consistency and elevating service delivery across all sites; and culture and engagement, shaping a coherent, contemporary culture supported by strong communication and aligned leadership.

Ideal Candidate

Experienced HR Lead who combines strategic depth with practical delivery, someone who can navigate ambiguity, build trust quickly, and bring cohesion to a business that is ready for a more aligned and modern approach to its people strategy. A leader who thrives in environments where transformation, cultural reset and organisational clarity are essential, and who will bring resilience, diplomacy, and the ability to balance strategic ambition with hands‑on delivery.

Benefits

Generous benefits, longer term career development, car allowance and bonus
