Job Overview

Location: Private Home in Central Shrewsbury.

Start date: Immediate.

Salary: £16 - £17 per hour.

Hours: 25-30 hours per week plus overtime; with occasional demand for weekend work dependent on family/work schedules.

A welcoming and active family of four – along with their friendly cockapoo – are seeking an exceptional and experienced housekeeper/family administrator to support the smooth running of their busy 7‑bedroom household in the centre of Shrewsbury.

The role encompasses housekeeping as well as light administrative duties and requires a professional with broad experience who can consistently maintain the highest standards of cleanliness. You will be responsible for the overall care, upkeep, and presentation of the property, ensuring the household runs efficiently and smoothly at all times. Whilst this would be the primary role, the family will require childcare support when required (ages 2 and 6).

The family is seeking a candidate who will become an integral part of the household – someone highly organised, personable, and discreet, with the flexibility to adapt to the varied needs of family life. The ideal candidate will grow to be a trusted and valued presence within the home.

This is ideal for a candidate looking for a long‑term commitment, as the position involves developing trust and a genuine connection with the family, especially the children. Short‑term or transient applicants need not apply.

Housekeeping and Administrative Duties
  • Daily and deep cleaning of the home to a very high standard, maintain household cleaning schedules
  • Laundry, making beds, ironing (mostly outsourced besides occasional items of clothing) and wardrobe management
  • Organise household appointments and liaise with maintenance, contractors and service provider
  • Booking of personal appointments / diary management
  • Assist with weekly food shop and fridge management
  • Assist with meal preparations during the week for the family (cooking skills are a bonus!)
  • Assist with occasional party / dinners preparation and house setting
  • Run errands including dry cleaners, shopping and managing returns
  • Stock control and overseeing household inventories and supplies
  • Occasional dog walking
  • Attend vet and grooming appointments
  • Occasional house‑sitting
Childcare Duties
  • Overseeing children while parents are nearby or working
  • Ensuring children's safety at all times
  • Preparing age‑appropriate toys, games, or activities
  • Supervising arts, crafts, or playtime indoors
  • Accompanying children on short outings if required (local walks, school drop‑offs/pick‑ups)
  • Light homework help or reading support
  • Encouraging educational activities and routines
  • Short periods of evening or weekend babysitting if parents are away
