Ivy Gate Lodge Care Home is a modern, purpose built 68 bed care home in Southport, Merseyside, delivering high quality residential, nursing, dementia and respite care within a warm, supportive and person centred environment.

We’re seeking a dedicated Host to oversee the smooth operation of our dining areas, ensuring our residents and visitors enjoy top-notch service in a clean and safe setting.

As Host, you’ll be the heart of our dining areas, where your attention to detail and warm demeanour will ensure that every meal and visit is enjoyable. Your role is crucial in maintaining a welcoming atmosphere and delivering excellent service, enhancing the overall experience for everyone who visits our café.

What You’ll Do

Café Management: Oversee the function and proper use of the dining areas, including any garden spaces, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently.
Food Storage: Keep fridges clean, ensuring food items are correctly stored, labelled, and rotated according to our guidelines. Maintain clean food storage cupboards and manage stock rotation in the café area.
Dining Setup: Assist in setting up the dining room for lunch and dinner, including dressing tables to create an inviting dining environment.
Menu Management: Update menu displays daily, keeping offerings fresh and appealing.
Meal Provision: Provide meals and drinks to residents who visit, and assist with their meals if needed, coordinating with care staff.
Refreshments Service: Offer refreshments such as tea and coffee to residents, relatives, and other visitors outside of regular mealtimes.
Communication: Maintain clear communication with the Head Chef regarding supplies and any special requirements.
Feedback: Collect information from residents about their dining experience to ensure continuous improvement.
Compliance: Ensure that all tasks align with company policies, HACCP regulations, COSHH regulations, and infection control practices.
Training & Supervision: Undertake induction and supervision of new staff and attend mandatory training sessions as required.

Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications

  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills to manage the dining area and keep everything running smoothly.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with residents, visitors, and staff.
  • Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail for maintaining cleanliness, food safety, and accurate record-keeping.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with care staff and other team members.

Desired Experience

  • Customer Service Experience: Previous experience in a customer-facing role, ideally in a café or similar setting.
  • Food Handling Knowledge: Familiarity with food storage and safety practices.
  • Care Environment Experience: Experience working in a care environment is advantageous but not essential.
