Job summary

A local government client in Blaguegate is seeking an experienced Homeless Advice and Prevention Officer to support its Housing Options Service. The successful candidate will conduct statutory homelessness assessments, manage caseloads, and provide housing advice to individuals at risk of homelessness. Strong knowledge of housing legislation and excellent communication skills are essential for this role. This position requires attending the Skelmersdale office two days a week.

Overview

One of my local government clients is seeking an experienced Homeless Advice and Prevention Officer to support its Housing Options Service. The successful candidate will deliver statutory homelessness assessments and provide early intervention to prevent homelessness wherever possible.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake homelessness assessments in accordance with the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
  • Manage a varied caseload of prevention and relief duty cases.
  • Provide accurate housing advice and practical support to individuals at risk of homelessness.
  • Develop Personalised Housing Plans and coordinate support with internal and external partners.
  • Maintain clear, accurate case notes and ensure compliance with legislation and policy.
  • Liaise with accommodation providers, support services, landlords, and external agencies.
  • Identify opportunities for early intervention and promote sustainable housing outcomes.
Requirements
  • Essential experience assessing homelessness under the Housing Act 1996 and HRA 2017.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory homelessness, housing legislation, and local authority processes.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage complex caseloads in a busy environment.
  • Ability to attend the Skelmersdale office a minimum of two days per week.
