Key Stage 2 Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Location: Hemel Hempstead
Contract: Long term contract
Start Date: January 2026

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Key Stage 2 HLTA to join a welcoming primary school team in Hertfordshire. This role offers the opportunity to support pupils' learning across the KS2 curriculum and provide class support and cover when required.

About the Role

This part‑time position is designed for an experienced practitioner who can work flexibly within KS2. You will be based primarily in Key Stage 2 classrooms, working alongside class teachers and senior leaders to support learning and continuity of education. There will also be opportunities to take the lead in teaching when the class teacher is unavailable for training, meetings or brief absences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high‑quality support to pupils across KS2 through targeted classroom assistance.
  • Deliver effective small‑group and whole‑class support when teachers are absent, ensuring learning continues with confidence and consistency.
  • Collaborate with class teachers to reinforce lesson objectives and help pupils access age‑appropriate learning.
  • Promote positive behaviour, resilience and engagement across all pupil groups.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment.
Candidate Profile

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience supporting learning in Key Stage 2 classrooms, ideally with some whole‑class teaching cover or responsibility.
  • Holds a relevant qualification such as Level 3 in supporting teaching and learning, childcare, or equivalent.
  • Is confident, adaptable and organised, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a school team.
  • Has a genuine commitment to helping every child achieve their potential, with a flexible approach to meet a range of learning needs.
