Job summary

A large NHS Trust is looking for a Health Care Support Worker to provide care and support to patients in an acute ward. This role is immensely rewarding and requires flexibility to work long shifts, including weekends and nights. Although previous experience in healthcare is not essential, compassion and teamwork are vital. With training provided, you will assist patients with daily living tasks and provide emotional support. Job Summary

Working as a Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) at University Hospital Bristol and Weston is an immensely rewarding job. A job in which your care can make real difference to patients’ lives. Previous experience is not essential, as we offer training.

This advert is for HCSW roles within Weston General Hospital.

We require everyone to be fully flexible across all shift patterns, including weekdays, weekends, nights and bank holidays.

Please note, this role does not currently meet the salary requirement for certificate of sponsorship. From the 9th April 2025, the minimum salary required for a Skilled Worker visa became £25,000 per year.

Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care and assist patients with daily living tasks, including washing, toileting (hygiene & continence), and meals (nutrition).
  • Help with mobility needs and provide pressure area care.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and their families.
  • Conduct one-to-one observation for patients who present a high risk due to clinical condition.
  • Ensure that the ward environment is clean and safe, preventing infection and falls.
  • Taking and recording patients’ vital signs, identifying and escalating changes in condition to the registered nurse.
  • Be proficient in additional clinical skills as required by the ward area, such as ECGs, venepuncture and simple dressings.
  • When competent, train and support new and junior team members, including student nurses.

Working Hours: 37.5hrs per week (full time) or 23hrs per week (part time)

You will be working on an inpatient ward, and you will be required to work long shifts (12 hours) which include days/nights, weekend and Bank Holidays.

This is physically demanding role, assisting patients who may have poor mobility, and you will be on your feet for long periods.

This is an emotionally demanding role and requires you to adapt quickly to the constantly changing clinical demands on an acute inpatient ward.
