A leading healthcare organization in Manchester is seeking an experienced Healthcare Scientist - Respiratory. This role involves advanced measurements in a dynamic lung function team, ensuring quality and compliance with guidelines. A BSc and MSc in relevant sciences, along with post-registration experience in respiratory physiology, are essential. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and experienced Respiratory Physiologist to join our Lung Function team to cover maternity leave.
Are you a highly motivated Respiratory Scientist looking for an opportunity to work at this level, at a large physiology service, that offers a broad range of investigations, then we want to work with you.
This role is based at Wythenshawe Hospital, in the North West Lung Centre, with a requirement to work at other MFT sites and support the community diagnostics team.
Responsible for performing a wide range of highly advanced / highly complex measurements and developing new and innovative tests.
Responsible for ensuring the technical accuracy and quality of the test procedures and producing accurate reports based on these procedures.
To assist in the management of staff, including personal development plans, performance appraisals, recruitment and selection.
To deputise for the Head of Department
To support senior members of staff in providing an efficient and cost effective lung function service to the University Hospitals of South Manchester.
Participate in the education, development and line management of junior staff.
Contribute to teaching Clinical Physiology to BSc and MSc students.
Participate in improvement of services and the quality of care provision.
Professional, Technical and Clinical
Perform unsupervised, all routine techniques within the lung function laboratory. To include spirometry, lung volumes, TLco, plethysmography and reversibility testing.
Perform unsupervised: Histamine challenge, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, respiratory muscle assessment, fitness to fly assessment, long term oxygen assessment and allergen skin prick testing.
To ensure data quality by undertaking equipment calibration and quality control for all tests performed within the laboratory
Ensuring the technical quality of assessment complies with published national guidelines.
Ensure compliance with all aspects of legal and ethical obligations.
