Job description
Overview

The post holder works under the indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse/ Midwife. They will work within the boundaries of their existing and developing skills at all times. The post holder is expected to maintain high standards of care, managing their time, tasks and resources effectively. To work under the direct/indirect supervision of, and in support of the registered nurse, carrying out delegated nursing and patient centred cares. Acute Hospital experience is essential and a completed care certificate.

Key responsibilities
  • To assist the registered nurses with direct & in-direct patient cares within all areas of the ED
  • To report any concerns to the registered nurse relating to standards of cleanliness, hazards and patient safety within the clinical area
  • To ensure the registered nurses are regularly updated on the patient’s condition and progress and escalate any concerns
  • To ensure the environment and equipment is clean and in good working order
  • To work closely with the housekeeper to ensure stock levels are correct
  • To demonstrate effective communication to ensure an effective handover of care
  • To maintain patient confidentiality and act as an advocate for the patients
  • Identify areas of audit in the department and be actively involved in quality improvement
  • To ensure appropriate escalation of any patient safeguarding concerns
  • To maintain a continuous professional development portfolio
  • With appropriate training, perform and document patient observations and escalate any concerns
  • With appropriate training, perform ECG’s and venepuncture
  • Assist in booking patient transport
  • Assist the nursing team in caring for patients requiring mental health support
  • Maintain a good professional working relationship with the ED multi-disciplinary team

Role location and about the role

The successful candidate will work in the Emergency Department and integrated Urgent Treatment Centre. They will accept delegated duties from the registered nurses working within the ED, such as working in the ECG room, undertaking observations, tending to hygiene needs of patients, restocking ‑ to name a few.
