Job Summary

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join the team at HMP Garth, a high‑security Category B male prison located in Leyland. HMP Garth has a capacity of around 850 and houses men serving long‑term and indeterminate sentences.

This role sits within our Primary Care team, where you will support clinics, work with pharmacy and respond to emergency situations – no two days are ever the same.

Salary and Working Hours

This position is full‑time, 37.5 hours per week on a rota basis. The 8‑week rota is as follows: week 1 – Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday; week 2 – Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Shifts run from 07:30 to 19:45, with night shifts (19:45–07:30) during two of the weeks. The annual salary ranges from £25,557 to £29,723, depending on experience.

Main Duties
  • Deliver exceptional care to patients, both in the healthcare department and on the wings
  • Implement clinical care packages, phlebotomy, assessment, treatment and evaluation of patient care
  • Support the primary care nursing team with all aspects of care
  • Assist with clinics, including bloods, ECGs, weight measurements and more
  • Act as a second checker in pharmacy as required
  • Carry out duties in the substance misuse or mental health teams as needed

Qualifications & Experience
  • Ideally hold an NVQ Level 2 or 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, or Care Certificate
  • Experience in phlebotomy is highly desirable
  • Experience in a clinical care setting, preferably hospital or prison
  • Clinical experience with venepuncture, ECGs, etc.
