An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team within iCaSH Bedfordshire working at Grove View in Dunstable. You will be working within our multi-disciplinary team including clinical and Outreach and the rotational Saturday at Kings Brook.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, enjoys providing excellent care and ensure patients are always put first. We want someone who wants to learn and develop.

The post holder will support the delivery of healthcare for patients attending the integrated contraception and sexual health (iCaSH) service which is part of Cambridgeshire Community Services (CCS). This may include the supporting of patients who present with sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS, contraception requirements and/or any other sexual health related problems.

This vacancy is for 22.5 hours per week (Monday 12-8pm, Wednesday 10-6pm and Thursday 8-4pm.)

Role is based at the Grove view site but will work a Saturday on a rotational basis at Kings Brook site. Training will take place at Grove View and Kings Brook. Must be able to get to both sites.

Main duties of the job

Good time management skills and the ability to thrive in a busy environment are key. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities are a must. You will also maintain privacy, confidentiality, dignity, and ensure the patient is well looked after.

Following training, and once signed off as competent, to act as a chaperone and assist nurses/doctors to undertake intimate examinations/procedures and or sexual health screening on patients.

To provide information to patients as appropriate who attend the department and to those who are diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection/HIV or require contraception advice, risk reduction advice and condom demonstration.

Following training, provide a phlebotomy service for patients attending the services. To participate in outreach and support health promotion events when requested.

To undertake non-clinical duties in support of the admin team, for example undertake call taking and reception cover including 0300 number answering, registering patients and booking, support data collection and or general patient and non-patient administration.

Following training, undertake, read and interpret microscopy slides as directed by clinicians and appropriately document and communicate the associated findings, if required by the clinical service.

Hold the Care Certificate and deliver the associated standards of care or undertake the training at the earliest opportunity upon recruitment to post.

Qualifications
  • Evidence of good standard of general education including basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Care Certificate or willingness to undertake at the earliest opportunity upon recruitment to post.
  • Willingness to undertake further education and training /learn new skills as required.
  • Level 2 or 3 qualification in Health & Social Care or equivalent.
  • Sexually Transmitted Infection Foundation (STIF) course - Core.
Experience
  • Experience of working in a health care environment.
  • Experience of working with the public.
  • Basic knowledge of and experience of IT systems such as Microsoft Office (2005 pr newer) Word, Excel, Outlook and internet navigation.
  • Recent experience of working in a sexual and reproductive health service or equivalent
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Skils
  • Competent in phlebotomy/venepuncture or willingness to train.
  • Willingness to undertake microscopy training if required by the service
  • Experience of reading and interpreting microscopy slides, and ability to appropriately document associated findings.
