Job description

Position: Health and Social Care Officer

Location: Specialist respite and crisis service for adults with learning disabilities and complex support needs

Hours: 22 hours per week, including night shifts (9 PM – 8 AM) on a six‑week rota with some weekends

Salary/Benefits: Enhanced payments for unsocial hours

Role Overview

We provide a supportive service that enables families to take short breaks while we care for their family members. Health and Social Care Officers are central to delivering compassionate, person‑centred care, ensuring the dignity and wellbeing of individuals is always prioritised.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide all aspects of care and support to people accessing the service
  • Support people with personal care and maintain sleep routines overnight according to their care plans
  • Use person‑centred approaches to meet individual needs and aspirations
  • Support people in expressing themselves, making choices, and using their unique forms of communication
  • Maintain sensitivity, patience, and respect for all individuals
Requirements
  • No specific professional qualifications or prior experience required
  • Caring, patient, and committed to making a positive difference
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
  • Commitment to maintaining dignity and delivering sensitive care
  • Willingness to undergo safeguarding and recruitment checks, including:
  • Criminal convictions check
  • Police information check
  • Barred list check (regulated activity)
  • Provision of written references
