Job description
Health & Safety Manager

Home based with multisite travel across the Midlands and Hertfordshire

Salary circa £60,000 plus package

We are recruiting a proactive, hands on Health & Safety Manager for a construction business. This is a high autonomy role for someone who takes ownership, drives improvement, and keeps standards tight without being told. If you like closing the laptop at five, this is not the right move.

Important location requirement

To be considered, your home location must be reasonably central within England. This role involves frequent site presence and is not suitable for candidates based at the geographical extremes of the UK.

About the role
  • Completely home based with regular travel across the Midlands and Hertfordshire
  • Full ownership of the IMS, policies, and safe systems of work
  • Leading site inspections, audits, and reviews of RAMS
  • Creating, reviewing, and improving risk assessments
  • Advising and influencing senior management on H&S compliance and best practice
  • Shaping and embedding a practical, effective safety culture
  • Ensuring H&S is fully integrated into day to day operations, not just paperwork
What we are looking for
  • Strong experience with management systems, safe systems of work, and risk assessments
  • Ability to work independently and take full ownership of the H&S function
  • Proactive, solutions focused mindset with confident communication skills
  • Comfortable operating in a small, hands on construction environment
  • Home location that allows sensible and regular travel across the Midlands and Hertfordshire
Salary and benefits
  • Circa £60,000 depending on experience and capability
  • Package can include car allowance
  • Genuine opportunity to lead, influence, and make a visible impact
  • This is a role for someone who wants control, influence, and responsibility, and who enjoys improving standards on site rather than maintaining the status quo.
