Job description

At Landmark, data engineering is not a back‑office function, it’s a core platform capability that underpins our products, insights, and decision‑making across the Group. We’re looking for a hands‑on Head of Data Engineering who enjoys designing modern data platforms, getting deep into architecture decisions, and leading by example.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to stay technically credible, shape strategy, and still be close to how things are built.

The Opportunity

As Head of Data Engineering, you will set the direction for Landmark’s data platforms and lead teams responsible for delivering trusted, scalable, and high‑quality data services to a wide range of consumers — from analytics and insight to downstream products and services.

You will
  • Design, evolve, and own the data platform architecture across cloud, hybrid, and on‑prem environments
  • Remain hands‑on with design and delivery, contributing to architectural decisions, technical reviews, and complex problem‑solving
  • Lead the build and optimisation of robust, scalable data pipelines supporting analytics, products, and ML workloads
  • Define and implement engineering standards, patterns, and best practices
  • Work closely with Data Operations, Insight, and Product teams to deliver high‑quality data services
  • Own the service model for data engineering, including reliability, performance, and operational excellence
  • Implement governance around access, retention, resilience, and recovery
  • Manage platform and team cost models with a clear understanding of technical trade‑offs
  • Act as a senior technical leader, shaping strategy and influencing decisions across the Group

This role offers real scope to modernise, simplify, scale and to leave a lasting imprint on how data is used across the business.

About You

You’re an experienced data engineering leader who combines technical depth with clear leadership and strategic thinking. You enjoy working at scale, navigating complexity, and enabling teams to do their best work.

You’ll bring
  • Proven experience leading high‑performing Data Engineering and Data Architecture teams
  • A strong track record of building enterprise‑grade data integration and analytics platforms
  • Knowledge of the Azure data ecosystem (e.g. Azure SQL, Data Lakes, ADF, Power BI)
  • Strong hands‑on understanding of SQL and Python
  • Strong awareness of, and appreciation for, open‑source data technologies and ecosystems
  • Experience designing and consuming APIs
  • Expertise in ETL / ELT patterns, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code
  • Solid grounding in data modelling and scalable pipeline architecture
  • Experience supporting ML workloads and diverse data types
  • A strong operational mindset, with accountability for reliability, SLAs, and service quality
  • Understanding of Geospatial data would be hugely beneficial

Most importantly, you’re someone who enjoys setting direction, raising standards, and inspiring teams.
