About this job

The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for performing venepuncture during morning clinics. In the afternoon, they will autonomously run their own clinics, managing patient care independently. This role requires a confident and skilled HCA who can work efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of patient care. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of laboratory procedures and techniques, along with excellent patient service skills.

Responsibilities
  • Perform phlebotomy (venepuncture) accurately and safely during clinics, demonstrating proven competence in this skill.
  • Record and monitor vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration with precision.
  • Conduct electrocardiograms (ECGs) and ensure accurate recording and reporting of results.
  • Provide basic wound care and dressing changes following clinical guidelines.
  • Administer vaccines safely and in line with practice protocols.
  • Administer vitamin B12 injections autonomously within own clinic sessions.
  • Monitor and manage patients with hypertension, including patient education and follow-up, running independent HTN clinics.
  • Manage and run independent clinics (e.g., HTN and B12) autonomously with full responsibility for patient care, documentation and reporting.
  • Work independently and confidently with minimal supervision, while collaborating effectively with team members and GPs.
  • Work effectively as part of the team.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential patient records and manage data entry with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, offering compassionate and empathetic patient care.
  • Exhibit good organizational skills and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and data protection.
  • Ensure cleanliness and hygiene of clinical areas, adhering strictly to infection control and health and safety policies.
  • Participate actively in ongoing training (E‑Learning) and professional development to keep skills current and comply with safeguarding requirements.
  • IT skills, including use of email and electronic patient record systems, are essential.
  • Fridge monitoring and maintenance of cold chain storage.
  • Cleansing equipment and ensuring clinical rooms are cleaned daily.
  • Working within your own scope of practice and own level of competence.

  • Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures and techniques, including phlebotomy and specimen processing.
  • Experience in a clinical laboratory setting is essential, with an understanding of medical terminology.
  • Proficiency in patient care practices, including vital sign monitoring and anatomy knowledge.
  • Familiarity with physiology concepts relevant to patient health.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with patients and healthcare staff.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
