Main duties of the job

The Medical Receptionist plays a vital role in theday-to-day running of the practice. Key responsibilities include:

  • .Greeting and assisting patients in person and by phoneBooking, amending, and cancelling appointments using EMIS Web
  • Processing repeat prescription requests and liaisingwith
  • Registering new patients and updating patient recordsaccurately

Managing incoming and outgoing communications (calls,emails, post)

  • .Assisting with patient queries and preparing documentsfor the clinical team
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality in line with NHSguidelines
  • Signposting patients to appropriate services whennecessary
  • Providing cover for colleagues during absences andsupporting general operations.

Job responsibilities

Job Purpose:

To provide a high-quality, professional reception and administrative service to patients, doctors, and other members of the general practice team. The role involves being the first point of contact for patients, managing appointments, handling enquiries, and supporting the smooth running of the practice.

Key Responsibilities: Reception Duties:

  • Greet patients and visitors in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Answer telephone calls promptly, deal with enquiries, and redirect calls as appropriate.
  • Make, cancel, and reschedule patient appointments using the clinical system (e.g., EMIS, SystemOne, Vision).
  • Ensure the reception area is tidy and always welcoming.
  • Register new patients and process necessary paperwork.
  • Explain practice procedures and services to new and existing patients.
  • Handle requests for home visits, repeat prescriptions, and test results.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times, in line with GDPR and NHS policies.

Administrative Tasks:

  • Input and update patient information on the clinical system accurately.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail, including scanning documents into patient records.
  • Assist in maintaining stocks of forms and other stationery.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Provide cover for colleagues during absences, holidays, or busy periods.

Qualifications and Experience:
